"Do I need to buy..." No, and here's why
"Do I need to buy..."
...I'm going to stop you right there.
No, you don't need to buy anything. Not a hat, not a wrap, not an outfit, a blanket, etc, etc! So back off of Etsy, put the PayPal down and listen up! Your newborn session with Anna MacIsaac Photography includes all of this - yeah, I invested in it for YOU! And yes, I'm sure there will be items you like! If not, then it's likely we weren't the right fit for each other from the start. My website, Facebook & Instagram photos show my style and 99% of items you see, are mine, and are here for you to use too!
If you see something you like, be sure to Pinterest it, or send me a snap so I know to bring it with me. I do my best to keep my social media up to date on items I am currently using so feel free to point it out at any time and let me know! I'm always here to chat!
Okay, maybe not ALWAYS, like how I avoided connecting with people while I finished up a newborn gallery today. Sorry, I'm a busy woman. For example, it's like 2 am and here I am writing a blog post because I haven't done one in like, 5 or 6 months! Yikes, that sounds worst out loud. But I've been occupied with getting married and honeymooning and returning to real life and catching up on all the babies who couldn't wait for their due dates!
Side track- Um, the wedding and honeymoon were AH-MAZING!!
Oh hey, there we are! Wondering who photographed my wedding? It wasn't a tough decision to make (I get asked that a lot)! It's Amara Photo! Masao is simply the best and I'm obsessed with his work so I knew exactly who I wanted... before I was engaged.. because I'm that obsessed!
Oh and Costa Rica... best time of our lives! I wish I could say I want to spend the rest of my life there, but honestly, it's too hot. Like, really hot! Like, you know that burst of heat you get when you open the oven to check on the chicken? Now imagine that with every breath you take! Ten days was plenty of time for us to enjoy being newlyweds and relax from the day to day grind. But we are happy to be back! Well, I'm happy to be back to snuggling babies while Rob isn't so thrilled about being back at work training those who are taking over his job to outsourcing. Insert giant eye-roll here.
Okay, okay- back to what we were talking about. Don't buy stuff for your session!
Unless it's an heirloom, has baby's name on it, or your life just seriously can't go on without it... then let me know before the session and I'd be happy to include it!
I have a lot of stuff. Tons of it actually. Like, my husband might evict me from our one bedroom apartment if I take over one more drawer of his to put more baby stuff in! I bring about 75% of what I have to each session. Well, of the stuff that I currently use. So if you're a photographer reading this and want a whole bunch of stuff I no longer use, it's all looking for a new home!
"What's a lot? Like, a suitcase or two?"
a giant beanbag poser
a giant equipment bag filled with lights, stands, reflectors, clamps, a stool and more
a paper backdrop roll (I store all three in my "studio" but I'm on a Mocha streak and it's likely what we will use)
an IKEA bag stuffed with Flokati rugs
a second IKEA bag stuffed with blankets, a bowl or two
a two tiered suitcase/travel make-up bag filled with 7 drawers of outfits for both boys & girls, 1 drawer of dainty headbands, a pocket of bonnets, hats, more headbands, posing beans, wraps- lots of wraps, baby whisperer secret tricks, sanitizer, pee pads, and whatever else I've stuffed in there
a back-up bag with "rainbow baby" items, stuffed animals & matching bonnets
and lastly, my camera bag.
Overall, it's a minimum of 3 round trips to get this stuff in & out of your house! And I'll probably make a huge mess, but I promise to clean it up!
Hopefully these cell phone snaps help give you an idea of how much there is to choose from. Don't make me take a photo of each item... my ice cream is already melting from all this typing and a girls gotta prioritize!
"So, I don't get a say in what you use?"
Not exactly. I will photograph the session using my best judgement, putting my experience and knowledge to use! Some babies NEED to be wrapped to make it through the session so even if your heart was set on nakey photos, it's it's taking us 30-60 minutes to get baby to stay posed nakey, then we might have to move along and wrap them up! Also, certain poses are more difficult for each baby. If they are gassey, they might not want to be on their belly. If they are older, they might not curl into a ball anymore. I'll use my judgement to make sure we are capturing baby safely and with the most adorable factor we can get!
Where you come in... I'll ask your opinion on colors, outfits, nakey v.s wraped, etc. I'll usually give you options such as "Do you prefer pink, or purple?" You'll have options within my style and the direction I'd like to take the session.
"I saw this one photo I really loved!"
Show me, show me, show me! One, um I love that you are loving on my art!! And two, the more I know what you like and prefer before the session the better prepared I'll be!
Here are a few of my favorite go-to poses and shots I try to capture in each session. Although this is my target goal for each session, on average we usually only fit in 4 poses for baby on the beanbag, the bum-up, taco, huck finn & tucked-in. But I might switch things up depending on babe!
"How do I know if I like your style and prop choices"
Simple, do the poses above or the colors below catch your eye? If you had to think about it, then maybe I'm not the right photographer for you. If your heart slightly melted a little and you can't wait for little nugget to arrive so you can have photos like this of them... then contact us now!
Here are some of the colors I use. Boys I bring cream & blue and girls I bring cream & pink blankets. I always have my cream Flokati and if you ask for, I can bring and use the pink or blue-ish green one! If you like the purple, brown or yellow just let me know to bring them! If I see it in your Questionnaire when I ask you these questions, I'll know already!
"What outfit should I have ready for baby for family photos?"
Unless you're in love with an outfit you have, you don't need one. Most families choose to pose with baby either in my "baby burrito" or nakey! What should you wear? I suggest white or cream! I don't see enough of it because everyone loves to wear "slimming black", but here's what you can expect to see from family photos- we won't see much of you other than head and shoulders! It get's hot at newborn sessions so here's a pro tip- wear shorts! We won't even see your waistline so anything below there is fair game for comfort! Siblings too, unless they are in middleschool or older and can stand while holding baby, they are going to lay down with them and pants won't show, so jeans are cool!
Most of this is in our amazing Prep Guide which was designed to let you know what to expect during a newborn session but I'm glad I could go over it in more detail here! I'm happy to hear your thoughts and hope you feel more at ease about not spending money on stuff for baby that you will use once (or, I won't even use it). Save your money and purchase some additional prints or downloads! I promise that's where your money is best well spent!
Okay, we good now?
